Lisa Mandel

Lisa Mandel joined the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) as the chief of staff in 2023. She has held various roles during her more than 40 years of dedicated county service but she maintains no matter her title or where she has worked, she has always been an advocate for the children, youth, adults and families that she has served.

Ms. Mandel began her Los Angeles County career in 1986 as an attorney for the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office where she represented adults charged with felonies and young people facing incarceration. Subsequently, Ms. Mandel worked with fellow public defenders to start the Children’s Law Center (CLC) and remained there for close to 20 years. After her tenure at CLC, she was asked to work for former Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky as his Children’s/Social Services deputy and afterward served as chief of staff for former Supervisor Sheila Kuehl.
