Los Angeles County foster youth shadow County Board of Supervisors and County managers for an inside look at governance and new job opportunities
Los Angeles County sponsored “Foster Youth Job Shadow Day” to provide foster youth the opportunity to shadow Supervisor Kathryn Barger, along with Department Directors and senior managers. This job shadowing experience helps expose youth to a behind-the-scenes look at County governance and pique their interest in pursuing a public sector career.
Studies show that older youth in foster care face challenges that can impact their ability to reach their educational goals, secure successful employment, and achieve their true potential. In response, the Board of Supervisors has long identified the development of career opportunities for transition aged foster youth as a critical issue and has supported several employment initiatives to support foster youth.
