Fostering Home: A community and faith-based partnership to support potential foster and adoptive parents

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), along with community and faith-based partners, will host Fostering Home, an exciting event to simplify the process of becoming a foster or adoptive parent and ensure recruitment efforts include all families.

Fostering Home, A Foster Parent Recruitment Event
September 29, 2018
10am to 4pm
First Christian Church
1751 N. Park Avenue, Pomona, CA 91768

As part of this innovative approach to recruitment, this “one-stop shop” Fostering Home event will feature:

  • Orientations in English and Spanish
  • Representatives from DCFS and Foster Family Agencies will be on hand to explain and expedite the new State Resource Family Approval application process.
  • Criminal background checks
  • A resource fair, featuring booths from Foster Family Agencies, other L.A. County Departments, and community organizations
  • Child care will be available for children ages 4 and over
  • Potential resource families will be able to meet committed foster parents and social workers
  • Refreshments will be served

“Foster and adoptive parents have a unique opportunity to positively change the lives of children in need,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis. “In collaboration with our community and faith-based partners in Pomona, I am committed to making the approval process easier and more supportive. Fostering Home is a unique opportunity to address the shortage of foster parents in LA County, while ensuring that our children can safely stay in a loving home, in their neighborhoods, and near their schools.”

There is a shortage of temporary, safe, and loving foster homes for abused and neglected children. The number of foster homes has declined by over half, from over 8,000 in 2005 to under 4,000 in 2015. There are simply not enough families to meet the current needs of the over 18,000 foster youth residing in out-of-home care placements.
