The Alberto family was referred to DCFS due to domestic violence in the home. When their social worker conducted her first visit with the family, Annalisa, the mother, appeared very depressed due to the physical and emotional abuse she had experienced. Annalisa was also unemployed and was struggling financially as her debts were increasing.
The Alberto children displayed symptoms of anxiety and depression and expressed confusion about their parent’s separation and visitations. Their children felt the need to show loyalty to each parent, which added conflict and stress to the family.
Gradually, through therapy and regular visits from their DCFS social worker, Annalisa was able to grow confident in her ability to provide for her children as a single mother.
The children have stronger relationship bond with their mother and are more open about their feelings. All continue to be high spirited and motivated to keep on moving forward.
